Katie Kovacs,
MSEd., LPC is a Professional Counselor who holds a Masters of
Science Degree in Counseling from the University of Dayton and a
Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Education and Bible studies from Cedarville
University. Katie has been a member of the National Eating Disorders
Association (NEDA), Academy for Eating Disorders (AED), American
Counseling Association (ACA), and Ohio Counseling Association (OCA).
Katie is also a certified Prepare & Enrich relationship
counselor.
Katie
began her professional career as a high school Spanish teacher and
dance team coach at Hilliard Davidson High School. In working with
adolescents, many of whom dealt with self-esteem and body image
issues, she became inspired to become a psychotherapist.
Upon completion
of her Masters work in counseling, Katie pursued and completed advanced
clinical training in the treatment of eating disorders and related
issues at The Renfrew Center (Philadelphia, PA) and at The Center
for Eating Disorders & Psychotherapy (Columbus, OH) where she
also facilitated a support group for clients struggling with Anorexia
Nervosa, presented psycho-educational workshops about eating disorders
and provided guidance to family and friends of people suffering
from eating disorders. In addition, she is the author of a noted
thesis project that researched the efficacy of collage journaling
when dealing with body image dissatisfaction.
Katie
provides counseling services to adolescents, children, families,
couples and individuals. Her areas of expertise include disordered
eating (including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating),
self-esteem and body image issues, relationships, anxiety and depression.
Katie is experienced in working with adolescent and young adult
clients involved in athletics and the performing arts. She is also
a sound and spiritually minded therapist who allows for the divine
to be present in her work with clients while respecting their religious
individuality.
In her work
with all clients, Katie believes in the importance of finding, developing,
and ultimately appreciating the unique, inherent, and valuable abilities
in each of us. Her background in education and performing arts combined
with clinical counseling training fosters a focused and creative
approach to both the counseling and consulting services she offers.
